BOSTON - April 10, 2003 - The Board of Directors of The New Ireland Fund, Inc. announced the resignation of William P. Clark as Director, effective March 31, 2003.

In making the announcement, Mr. Peter Hooper, Chairman, said that Judge Clark was resigning for personal reasons and while the Board had agreed to accept his resignation, this was with regret as the Fund had benefited significantly from his contributions over the years.

The Fund is a closed end mutual fund managed by Bank of Ireland Asset Management (U.S.) Limited and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
